The Problem I Faced
The brakes started making noise and then failed completely—they became very weak, the car couldn't exceed 64 km/h, and fault codes appeared: (P060600) ECU FAULT and (C001900). Of course, the driving assistance system stopped working.
I strongly don't recommend installing any non-original bumpers on the Leopard 5 Lidar or Leopard 8 because there are so many radars in the rear bumper especially
Diagnosis and Original Part
After diagnosis at the dealership, it turned out the IPB SYSTEM ASSEMBLY computer was faulty. The price at the dealership was 8000 QAR, but I found it elsewhere for 5000 QAR, and ordered it from Alibaba for 1800 QAR.
I couldn't find the exact original part number, but I ordered it using my chassis number. According to the dealership, if the part number is different, it means the original part had issues and was discontinued. The manufacturer released a new part number that resolved the problems in the old one.
Installation and Programming
I installed the part at an independent shop, but had to go back to the dealership for programming along with the brakes. Programming cost 1200 QAR. As I understand it, you can't program this part outside the dealership because it requires multiple steps and a vehicle-specific configuration file that's pulled from an online VDS device linked to China.
Suspected Cause
To be honest, I'm not entirely clear on what caused the problem. I installed third-party bumpers and later removed them because they weren't compatible with the Leopard 5 Lidar. I also updated VDS and installed camera protectors. The dealership said it might have been one of these that confused the computer.
Important Warning About Other Parts
I strongly don't recommend installing any non-original bumpers on the Leopard 5 Lidar or Leopard 8 because there are so many radars in the rear bumper especially.
My Dealership Experience
My experience with the dealership in Qatar was honestly both good and bad. Good because they clearly understood the problem and the solution, and they agreed to fix the car outside of warranty—unlike Al-Futtaim. Bad because the prices were quite expensive.
